Grant recipients and SJWC officers at our 2016 appropriations night

Simsbury Junior Woman's Club serves the community by providing necessary funding

The Simsbury Junior Woman’s Club (SJWC) held their annual appropriations coffee reception on Friday May 8th at Freemason Hall to award grants to fifteen (15) area non-profit organizations located in Simsbury, the Farmington Valley and Hartford. The appropriation coffee reception gave SJWC members the opportunity to thank these organizations who do so much for our community, as well as to learn more about their current goals and missions.

In 2016 Simsbury Junior Woman’s Club was able to gift $8,000 to these organizations through our annual Luminary Night fundraiser, which takes place on the first Sunday of December. The purpose of Luminary Night is to both raise funds that can be appropriated back to deserving non-profit organizations as well as to bring neighbors together as they light luminary candles throughout the community to celebrate the start of the holiday season.

How the funds are raised

SJWC’s annual Luminary Night Fundraiser, “Light Up the Night, Simsbury”, is the primary means of raising money which is then appropriated back out to the community. Luminary night is held on the first Sunday evening in December.

Luminary kits are sold and placed in yards & driveways in neighborhoods throughout Simsbury. Lighting of the kits at this time of year exemplifies the joining together of friends, neighbors and the community as a whole, at the start of the holiday season. Local businesses also join the fun by sponsoring the event and lighting luminaries outside of their businesses and organization by lining the streets downtown.

Thanks to Luminary Night sponsors, especially Platinum Sponsor Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense, whose grant allowed the club to purchase all of the necessary luminary kit materials, SJWC is able to give back 100% of kit sales to the community as grants and in support of SJWC service projects.
