How We Serve our Community

The Simsbury Junior Woman’s Club performs valuable community service activities through both original programming and community partnerships.  Volunteer opportunities occur at various times year-round (including weekdays and weekends) so that everyone has a chance to participate regardless of their schedule.  Also, many programs are designed for children to volunteer along with the club member, which is a great way to have fun together and also introduce the value of helping others to the next generation. Read on for more details about our community service activities, then find out how to become a part of this dynamic organization!

SJWC Original Programming

Ladybug Bash

In March, the SJWC kicks off spring with our annual Ladybug Bash, a celebration for the whole family.  Join us at the Henry James Middle School in Simsbury as we host over 100 families with a variety of crafts and games, a scavenger hunt, magicians and our giant bake sale with over 300 cupcakes!

Teddy Bear Sleepover

Each fall the SJWC sponsors the annual Teddy Bear Sleepover at the Simsbury Public Library.  Kids drop off their favorite stuffed friends, and SJWC members chaperone the animals as they enjoy a “wild” sleepover at the library.  The SJWC chaperones record the animals’ antics for everyone to enjoy the next day at the library, along with coffee, juice and muffins.

Additional SJWC original programs

  • Service Appreciation Day – SJWC members and families prepare baskets filled with homemade snacks for the Simsbury Police Department, Fire Departments and EMT’s to thank them for their valuable service to our community
  • Sandwich MakingSJWC members and families participate in preparing and delivering sack lunches for the residents of the South Park Inn Shelter in Hartford
  • Mugs and More for MomsSJWC members help children (and parents) create fun ceramic gifts for mom on Mother’s Day

Community Partnerships

SJWC also works closely with our community partners to provide essential support for various Simsbury social programs, including:

  • Providing volunteers for the Meals-on-Wheels program operated by McLean Assisted Living Facility
  • Providing dessert once a month for the Souper Tuesday senior luncheon sponsored by the Simsbury Senior Center
  • Providing volunteers for the annual Jack Bannon Turkey Trot
  • Working with the Simsbury Public Library to create a children’s art display and a variety of other childrens programming
